Everyone knows what search engine optimization, or SEO, is these days. And we’ll let you in on a little secret: no one knows exactly how Google ranks websites. That’s because their algorithms are a secret. What’s really happening is SEO experts make observations (decreases in keyword rankings, changes in domain authority of websites, etc.) and attributes those changes to algorithm updates. Now occasionally Google will say remember those thin content pages you added that produced a lot of traffic to your site? Well, we don’t like those anymore. But the truth is there’s a lot of trial and error.
Also, and this is important, be wary of anyone promising “page one of Google rankings”. That should send up a red flag! It’s impossible to guarantee those sort of results, and any agency or freelancer making those claims is probably up to no good. Do you really want to risk getting a manual action or other penalty against your site? Best case scenario your traffic, rankings, and sales will eventually drop. Worst case scenario your site gets de-indexed by Google! That means when someone googles your business, it won’t show up in the search results.
