2012 Miami short Film Festival Gains Support

For the past (10 ) years, the Miami short Film Festival has introduced new directors and filmmakers to South Florida. It has showcased movies in Miami Beach, the Design District, Coral Gables, South Miami, and other great locations, allowing many local communities in South Florida to take part in its events. Nevertheless, the Miami short Film Festival has always hoped to create a home for the festival.

Finally, with the help of Figment Group Advertising Firm, The Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce, Coconut Grove BID, and Paragon Theaters, it looks like the Miami Short Film Festival will stay in Coconut Grove for the next few years.

“We are very excited about having a place to call home. It was important for us to move the venue around in the beginning stages to obtain exposure, but now that the Miami short Film Festival is a well-known festival, we need to have a home. That’s not to say that we won’t showcase movies in other communities, but Coconut Grove  will be our home base,” said William Vela, the Director and Founder of the Miami short Film Festival.

The local community has responded with tremendous support

“All the members involved in the Coconut Grove community have been so welcoming,” said Vela. “We appreciate Paragon Theaters for allowing us to present our films in their state-of-the-art facility. We could not have asked for a better location – Coconut Grove has always been known as an artistic community, and we hope that this venue will bring it even more exposure and art.”

For those that have not had the chance to experience the Miami short Film Festival yet, you are missing out on a very exciting event. The festival features a week of networking and educational events, Q&A sessions, short films shown from directors from all over the world, and an awards ceremony showcasing the best films.

Unlike other film festivals, the short films clock in around 20 to 30 minutes, allowing the audience to watch a variety of films in one feature presentation. In one session alone, you may see a comedy, a documentary, and an action feature shot in France, India, Russia, Australia, Colombia, Canada and or Miami. You never know, and that’s the fun of it.

The Festival attracts a wide demographic bringing together a diverse group of people that immerse themselves in community events and are not afraid to explore new things. The events bring new business from surrounding communities that might not otherwise stroll down here.this way. The Miami short Film Festival is pleased that local businesses can benefit, and recognize those that support their efforts and provide services.

“We encourage all companies that want to be a part of this event to contact us. The type of crowd we attract is an educated, yet diverse group that will roam around the area,  and try new restaurants, hang out in a local bar, and shop at the local store. This is a great opportunity for a business to partner with us so we can showcase them. So if you have a local business we are actively looking for sponsors and are happy to offer exposure through our printed collateral and short commercials during our presentations,” Vela said.

“We also appreciate the help we have received from businesses that don’t have retail facilities, but realize the importance of this project. Figment Group has been a supporter of the MSFF for numerous years, offering their support in design, large format and commercial printing,” said Vela.

Future plans for the Miami short Film Festival include having a community “Film in the Park” involving short comedy presentations where films will be shown on a large screen in the park allowing anyone to bring a blanket and attend. The goal is to have families and youngsters come out for as long or as “short” of an experience as they can.

Embrace the opportunity to come out and support the arts by sponsoring and attending the Miami short Film Festival. The short film you watch today might be the early work of the director that makes the next great blockbuster.
